LIFE SAVING.
Instruction for Scouts at North Beach. A meeting of the executive committee of the North Beach Surf Life Saving Club was held in the pavilion, Mr W. Smith (president) presiding over a full attendance. One resignation was accepted and three new members elected. A request was received from the scoutmaster of the North Beach Boy Scout troop that the club give instruction in life saving to the boys of the troop. The request was agreed to wholeheartedly and it was decided to offer to hold classes throughout the winter months regularly on Wednesday evenings, beginning next Wednesday week, six instructors to take the classes in turn. A member also offered to take the boys for water work at the Tepid Baths, if it could be arranged for them to attend there. A long discussion took place regarding club competitions. It was decided that the competitions be held on Easter Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m., this to include the two competitions that should have been held last Sunday morning. It was further agreed on the motion of Mr Riordan “that, with the concurrence of the donor, the competition for the D. V. "Wilson Cup be changed from a seven-man rescue to a handicap swim round the buoy, open to junior under seventeen years on October 1 last.” On the motion of Mr Riordan it was agreed that the secretary arrange for a photograph of all the winning teams for the season to be taken and that the swimmers be notified of the time and place. On the motion of Mr Scott it was decided to include also last year’s Newburgh Shield team.
