CYCLE RACING.
Sumner Club Holds Final Event of Season. Great interest was manifested in the Sumner Cycling Club’s final road race of the season, which was held last evening, over an eight miles course, it was open to members of the club, and decided the winner of the Gerard and Rapid Cups. F. Bradbury was the winner of both cups with 65 points, E. Moreton being second with 60 points, and L. Kench third with 35 points. The course was from Sumner to the Heathcote Bridge and return, the roads being in perfect order. At the turn Klingenstein and E. Moreton were in the lead, 45sec in front of R. Moreton and Bradbury, with Kench 15 sec further back. The result was a thrilling finish between Bradbury and E. Moreton, Bradbury gaining the verdict by half a wheel. Result:— F. Bradbury (30sec), 21min 9sec .... 1 E. Moreton (lmin), 21min 39 l-ssec 2 R. Moreton (15sec), 20min 58sec .... 3 C. J. Klingenstein (ljinin), 22min 45sec 4 L. Kench (scr), 21min 55sec 5 R. Moreton established fastest time. The cups were presented to Bradbury after the race by Mr E. A. M’Kaskell.
