Many Gatherings in the Town and Country.

BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED. Mrs A. W. Beanland gave a kitchen evening recently in honour of Miss Dorothy Evans, whose marriage will take place shortly. Miss Evans wore a dainty frock of beige crepe de chine patterned in gold, chocolate and black. Mrs Beanland wore a smart frock of black lace, with coatee to match. The evening’s entertainment took the form of a prng pong tournament. Those present were:—Mesdames J. W. Beanland, VV. Beanland, E. Evans, A. Campbell, Misses Dorothy Evans, M. Dickson, J. To celebrate the coming of age of their only son, Ron, Mr and Mrs J. W. Crampton entertained a number of friends at their residence in St Martins recently. At supper, the usual toasts were honoured. The customary gold key was presented by Mrs Crampton. During the evening, dancing and games were enjoyed. Competitions were won by Miss B. Langridge, Mr J. Langridge, and Mr C. Powley. An enjoyable variety evening was held in the Rangers’ Football Hall, Manchester Street, recently, under the auspices of the Canterbury Caithness Association, in honour of Miss Cissie Miller, whose wedding will take place shortly. The evening was spent in games and dancing. Items were contributed by the following:—Messrs J. Cormack, J. Wilson and M. Dean (songs), Mrs Shaw (recitation). Competitions were won by Mr A. Clyne and Miss Veda Wentworth. Winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Mr and Mrs D. .Lockie. A flag game was won by Miss Ethel Harris. Mr Withers supplied the music for the dancing. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Claris Forward and partner. Mr Joe Sweeney presented the guest of honour with a gold key. Music was supplied by Mrs Moultree and Mr Keith Reynish. An enjoyable variety evening Avas given on Friday by members and friends of the Wesley Guild and Methodist Church, Broadfields, in honour of Miss Winnie Early, who will be married this week to Mr M. Butcher, Broadfields. The guest of the evening was the recipient of many useful gifts. The Rev J. Southern wished Miss Early every success and prosperity and Mr M. Butcher replied. Games, competitions and musical items were enjoyed. Items were given by: Pianoforte solo, Miss J. Southern; recitation, Mr Ray Early; playette, Mrs J. Southern and Misses J. Southern and I. An enjoyable afternoon was given by the members of the Broadfields Tennis Club on its courts last Saturday in honour of Miss Winnie Early. There Avas a large gathering of members and their friends. A presentation of a case of teaspoons was made to Miss Early by Mr F. Phillips (club captain) Avho wished her every success. Mr M. Butcher responded on behalf of Miss Early.
