BURGLAR IN FLAT.

Occupants Awakened by Man in Room. ESCAPE PREPARED. The occupants of a flat in Oxford Terrace were awakened on Sunday morning by the movement of a man in their bedroom. They acted promptly, but the intruder had a way of escape well prepared and was able to evade capture. The flat was that of Mr and Mrs George Kellar, of the Regency Sweet Shop in Cathedral Square, and is situated in Oxford Terrace, close to Manchester Street. Nothing was stolen. It was shortly after one o’clock that Mrs Kellar was awakened. She saw the figure of a man outlined against the dim light of the door. She made no sound, but waited until the man had turned and gone into the next room, and then wakened her husband. He rushed out. but the thief had propped open all doors leading out of the flat, and he made a quick retreat, being out of sight when Mr Kellar got to the front door. The police were communicated with immediately, and a search made of the neighbourhood, but the man had for the time made good his escape. It was discovered that the flat had been searched by the burglar without success. Mrs Kellar’s handbag, which was on the sideboard, had been opened and the contents emptied out, but Mr Kellar had put the proceeds of the night's business in a safe place. The thief was apparently in search of this sum when he ventured into the bedroom .
