KAIAPOI BOROUGH.

The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (the Rev W. H. A. Vickery), Councillors A. E. Brown, C. M. Williams, M. Ramsay, F. Thorne, J. W. Barnard. H. Rinaldi, J. D. Williams and K. J. Dunn. The Minister of Education wrote advising that the handing over of the old school buildings and site to the Borough Council had been agreed to, the council to meet all costs in connection with the transfer. The secretary of the Kaiapoi W.E.A. classes was granted permission to use the council chambers for holding a meeting to arrange the classes for the coming season. The District Engineer. New Zealand Railways, wrote applying for permission to traverse the borough roads in connection with the removal of a house from Bennetts to Kaiapoi. The house to be placed on railway property in Hilton Street. The Mayor stated that the house had been hre-ught into the borough that day without the council’s permission. It. was decided that the council enter its most emphatic protest against the railway authority in its action of deliberately ignoring the borough by-laws, and that an explanation be demanded. The director of the Kaiapoi Technical School wrote applying for a. donation from the council towards the school funds. It was decided to consider the application when framing- next year’s G Mr^wf"lT. Stevens, consulting engineer, Rangiora, wrote forwarding a report on drainage for the borough together with plans, advised that lie would he pleased iW meet the council at any time and give them any further information required. The report was referred to the Health Committee to be submitted to a special meeting of the council on March 15. It was decided to invite Mr Stevens to attend the meeting. The Finance Committee submitted a scale of charges and conditions under which rooms in the old school may be rented. The financial report showed receipts £643 18s, debit balance £1446 4s 9d. Accounts amounting to £485 14s 8d were passed for payment.
