Fat Cattle Prices Improve. FAT LAMBS SCARCE. Beef was dearer at the metropolitar market at Addington, when good steers cows and heifers sold well. The fat lamb market was small, anc the bulk of the offering was taken b> butchers at prices slightly in advance ol those ruling last week. The fat sheep entry was also verj Store lambs sold at last week’s rates Tat Lambs. The fat lamb entry was again a small one, totalling 1800, as against 2000 last week. There were a few lines of West Coast lambs forward, but they were not of such good quality as those forward at the previous sale. The yarding did not include as many good lambs as that o t last week, and from the start butchers bought freely at prices a little firmer than those ruling last week. Freezing buyers did not get many lambs. Top price was 20s Id for one sold on account of a client. Values were:— Extra prime lambs to 20s Id. Prime lambs 17s to ISs 6d. Medium lambs 13s to 16s 6d. The sale for them opened keenly on a basis of the previous week’s values, but after progressing a little way it became a shadfe less brisk, particularly for the fine wools but there was no great difference in values. Anything in forward condition and with a little size to it was worth round about 10s or 11s. Rape Jambs 10s to 11s 9d. Medium rape lambs 8s to 9s 6d. Ordinary m.s. lambs 6s to 7s 9d. Backward lambs 4s to ss. Medium ewe lambs 7s 6d to 9s. The yarding of store sheep was the largest this year, and more in line with what one expects at this time of the season. It was more than double that penned at any other sale so far, and it. consisted chiefly of ewes of practically all grades. The sale over the early stages was rather dragging, particularly for the younger class of ewe, and values were not as good as those that ruled at Waiau yesterday. There was a number of passings. Some of the early sales were:— Ewes—sß six and eight-tooth Romney cross at 11s 9d; 335 four and five-year half-bred at 8s 7d; 104 five-year halfbred at 8s 8d; 81 s. and f.m. cross-bred at 5s 7d; 142 s.m. half-bred Romney at 12s 3d; 334 six and eight-tooth crossbred at Ss Sd; SO six-tooth half-bred at 11s 6d; 66 two-tooth half-bred at 14s 3 0d; 50 two-tooth half-bred at 15s 4d; 60 six and eight-tooth Romney cross at 12s 3d; 71 two-tooth three-quarter-bred at 20s; 320 six and eight-tooth crossbred at 11s 9d. Pat Cattle. The entry of fat cattle totalled 312 head, as compared with 250 at last week’s market. The quality was quite good, with some choice lines forward from the Ellesmere and Banks Peninsula districts. The market was a buoyant one, with heavy types selling on a par with last week’s rates, while there was an advance of from 30s to 15s a head for light steers, and good cows and heifers. The top price for steers was £l3 3 2s. 6d, secured for two sold on

account of a client. There were eleven steers in the line, which averaged £l2 9s sd. The top price for heifers was £lO 7s 6d, secured for one sold by J. R. Thacker (Okains Bay). That vendor had a particularly attractive line. There were seven heifers which brought from £7 12s 6d to £lO 7s 6d. five cows from £7 2s 6d to £8 2s 6d, and fifteen steers —

n. nice line—from £9 32s 6d to £l2 7s 6d. The top price for cows was £lO 7s 6d.
