ONE CASE TO-DAY.
Notifications of Infantile Paralysis. DECREASE DURING WEEK. One further positive case of infantile paralysis was reported to the Health Department this morning, but there was a slight decrease in the notifications during the week ended at noon. Four cases were reported, as compared with five the previous week and six the week before. There have now been eighteen definite cases of the disease reported since the beginning of the year, and of these two have proved fatal.
To offset the decrease in the poliom3relitis notifications, there has been a further increase in the notifications of scarlet fever. Eight cases were reported as compared with five and two in the previous weeks. Though the increase is steady, it is not regarded with alarm, as officers of the department state that it is not unusual for the time of the year.
There were two deaths during the week, one on the West Coast from ptomaine poisoning, and the other in Canterbury, from tuberculosis. Notifications during the week were as follows : West Coast.
