THIEVES’ HARVEST.

Burglars All Joining in Gold Rush. HAULS IN MELTING POT. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received March 7, 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, March 6. The “ gold rush ” is delighting thieves, for it is giving them the opportunity of a lifetime for the disposal of stolen articles. If a man walked into a reputable jeweller’s six months ago wanting to sell a collection of watches and jewellery the probability was that the jeweller would telephone for the police. Nowadays, so many honest people are doing the same thing that it is impossible to distinguish between them. Detectives regret that much good evidence is going into the melting pot, while they also note that money is exceptionally plentiful among known burglars. On the other hand " fences,” who usually take the bulk of the profits in disposing of stolen goods, arc having a lean time.
