PERSONAL.

His Honor Mr Justice Adams left for Wellington last night. The Hon W. W. Snodgrass_ was a passenger for the north last night.

Messrs R. K. Murphy, A. Moore (Wellington) and W. Russell (Auckland) are staying at Warner’s Plotel. Messrs A. P. Reid, John Farrell and R. M. Doughty (Wellington) are at the United Service Hotel.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Rev C. A. Fraer was passed at a meeting of the Christchurch Domains Board yesterday. Mr W. C. l'ish, managing director of the Bell Hill Gold Sluicing Company, has left for a short trip to the West Coast.

Mr H. F. Kitto (Wellington) is a guest, at the Clarendon Plotel. Mr Ivan Menzies (London), of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, is staying at the United Service Plotel. The following Members of Parliament arrived from the north this morning:—Messrs C. Carr, F. Waite, D. G.. Sullivan, J. Bitchener, PI. T. Armstrong, J. A. Macpherson, J. M’Combs, and H. S. S. Kyle. The following members of the Legislative Council arrived from the north this morning:—Sir Heaton Rhodes, the Hon D. T. Fleming, the Hon G. Witty, and the Hon W. Stevenson.

Sir Lindo Ferguson arrived from Wellington this morning. The Minister of Transport has approved the following appointments as testing officers under the motor drivers’ regulations, 1931: —Messrs W. J. Tait (Kaiapoi), M. Hall (Lyttelton), D. Cameron (Timaru) and W. A. Boaz (Waimairi).

Mr A. H. Hobbs, J.P. (president of the Canterbury Justices’ Association), Mrs Hobbs and Mr Alfred Williams, J.P. (vice-president of the Canterbury Justices’ Association) are leaving by to-night’s ferr to attend the New Zealand Federation of Justices’ Conference at Wanganui on Tuesday. Mr Arthur Jacobs, of the firm of George Thomas and Co., and president

of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association of New Zealand, will leave on a trip to England by the Rangitiki on March 24. lie has been ordered a sea voyage and complete rest by his medical adviser. He will be accompanied by Mrs Jacobs.

Mr David Edmonds, for some years licensee of the Carlton Hotel, was entertained on Thursday evening by a number of his Papanui and other friends. Regret was expressed at his departure from the district, and best wishes were extended for his future welfare. Mr Edmonds was presented with a combination smoking companion and bridge set, and his son, Mr John Edmonds, was the recipient of a silver pencil.
