ALL NATIONS FAIR.
How the Funds are to be Distributed.
Gratification at the enthusiasm that was being displayed by' all sections of the community in making arrangements for the All Nations Fair, which is to be held in April, was expressed by the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., this morning.
It was a pleasure to him, he said, to find all sections of the community —both workers and employers —displaying a praiseworthy interest in the fixture. Pie thought that the result of the united effort would be that Christchurch would set an example to the whole of the Dominion in the matter of relief of distress. The bulk of the funds raised at the fair wpuld be distributed through the operations of the Citizens’ Relief Association in the maintenance of its various depots. Other directions in which the funds would be used, however, would be in providing gifts of coal, assisting the Women’s Unemployment Committee, assisting to provide necessaries for men in the various camps for single unemployed, and in giving a small am'unt of relief to be distributed personally from the Mayor’s office. In conclusion, the Mayor said he particularly wished to thank the ladies’ committee for the wonderful work it was doing.
In connection with the Street Day which the All Nations Fair Committee proposes to hold, the organiser of the appeal, Mr S. Jameson, stated this morning that the aim would be to collect £2OOO. While the objective was a big one, he was confident of it being achieved, providing sufficient collectors were got together. Those willing to assist in this capacity were required to get in touch with him, care of the City Council.
