WOMEN’S AUXILIARY.

Manufacturers’ Association Meets. ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR. The annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association was held recently; present:— Miss L. Tabart (chair), Mesdames Boyce and Pugh (vice-presidents), Bishop, Fricker, M’Cully, Hassall and Miss H. K. Lovell-Smith (secretary). Miss Tabart gave a short account of proposed work for the forthcoming Winter Show, at which it is hoped that exhibitors of handcraft may be able to sell or take orders for their work. Mannequin parades of New Zealandmade woollen goods, for both adults and children, might be inaugurated with benefit to manufacturers. It was agreed that a sub-committee be set up to meet members of the C.M.A. execu-

Miss Lovell-Smith reported on several of her country visits and said she felt it was worth while canvassing Canterbury country districts on the lines the Women's Auxiliary had set out, to educate people on the industries of New Zealand. Mrs M’Cully reported that she and Mrs Fricker had attended the Mayor’s meeting in connection with the All Nations Fair. She had intimated to the secretary that the committee of the Women’s Auxiliary would be willing to take over the Is stall. Miss Tabart said it would be necessary to gather strength from some other organisation, as a four days’ fair would be too large an undertakiryr for so small a number. Secretory’s Report. The secretary read the following report:—“The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association gave the Women’s Auxiliary space at the Winter Show and built a bay for their use. This was furnished by the auxiliary, furnishings being lent by the Lace Web Company and Bradley Bros. One of the executive was in attendance to answer any questions and interest any who passed in the desirability of supporting their own country’s manufactures. There was an excellent exhibition in the needlework and cooking sections. The auxiliary undertook the furnishing of the women’s rest-room and the tea-room. Thomas Cook and Son lent a number of posters to be displayed and Andrew Lees and Co. covered the dingy walls of the tearoom with gay samples of wallpapers. “Advantage was taken of the Winter Show to enrol a number of women in the Women’s Section of the Manufacturers’ Association. This section is part of an educational campaign which has been carried out by the auxiliary since its inception. The object is to interest women in their country’s manufactures. Visits to Factories. “ A number of visits to the following factories have been organised for the Women’s Section—Suckling Bros., Aulsebrook and Co., Bunting and Co., the Kaiapoi Woollen Mills Company at Kaiapoi, Lane, Walker and Rudkin, and many similar factories have been visited by parties of members. Lectures—A series of talks on the desirability of 4 supporting the country that supports you ’ have been given by the president (Miss L. Tabart) and the secretary (MiSs H. Lovell-Smith).
