BALL AT WOODEND.
The Tuahiwi Hall was crowded on Monday evening, when a successful leap year ball was held. The hall had been decorated with red and white streamers in the form of a canopy, and coloured balloons added to the pleasing aspect. Credit is due to Miss Rutu Piki, who was master of ceremonies, and her assistants, Misses Rene Dempster and Hutaka Pitama. The music for dancing was supplied by two orchestras, and the grand march was led by Miss Hine Pitama and Mr R. M’Gee, of Gisborne. A waltzing competition was won by Mr and Mrs L. Crofts, and the fox trot by Miss Rene Dempster and Mr H. Tianui. Streamer, balloon and confetti dances added greatly to the enjoymbnt of the dancers. The supper-room was gaily decorated with red and white asters. The Ladies’ Committee responsible for the arrangements were Mesdames H. Crofts and H. Harris and Misses R. Crocome, Rutu Piki, Rene Dempster, Hine and Himitika Pitama. There were about 300 present.
