APPLICATION REFUSED.

Objection Made to Legal Costs. An application by Regent Street, Ltd., to have the bill of costs of a city legal firm taxed by a judge of the Supreme Court was dismissed by his Honor Mr Justice Adams this morning. There was no appearance for the applicant company. Counsel for the legal firm said that the firm had acted for Regent Street, Ltd., in the matter of a loan of £43,000 to the company by the Government Life Insurance Department. The costs had been according to the scale of the New Zealand Law Society, and were moderate, especially as there was a lot of extra work entailed in connection with the dedication of Regent Street, easements, and other details, for which no charge had been made. Counsel said that he had approached a responsible officer of the company, who had said that he knew nothing of the application whatever. “It is an attack on the scale, is it not?” said his Honor. “The application is discharged.”
