INTRUDER CAUGHT.

Woman Disturbed in House

at Springfield.

Mrs C. Saundercock, Springfield, whose husband owns a store there, had a trying experience this morning. At 2 a.m. she heard the noise of a window blind going up in the children’s room. She arose and went into the room, but did not switch on the light for fear of disturbing the children. Crossing to the window, she saw an object on the floor. Bending down she came in contact with a man’s foot. She called her husband, and in the light from the window they saw a man. He looked up and said “ I won’t hurt you. Thieves are after me.”

Mr Saundercock rang for the constable at Darfield. He took charge of the intruder and conveyed him to Dr Reid at Darfield before taking him to Christchurch.
