DIFFICULT RESCUE.
Man Falls Over a Cliff at Taylor’s Mistake. BAD SCALP WOUNDS. While trying to find a better fishing ground at Taylor’s Mistake yesterday, Percy G. Loader, of 550, Barbadoes Street, fell over a cliff and was seriously injured. The scene of the accident lies well away from the road at a point about mid-way between Whitewash Heads and the Taylor’s Mistake beach. It is a lonely spot, visited only by keen fishermen. But for the fact that the accident was actually seen, Mr Loader might not have been found for a long time. His injuries
consist of bad scalp wounds and concussion, but a report from the Christchurch Hospital this morning states that he is progressing satisfactorily. With a friend, Mr A. C. Robilliard, the well-known All Black footballer, he
had tried his luck with the line,
and not being satisfied with the result, told his companion he would try the water near Giant’s Eye. He apparently missed the proper track. Mr Marcantelli, of Stunner, the owner of a hut nearby, saw him endeavouring to get down the cliffs in a risky spot. He had just warned Mr Loader not to go on, when he slipped and disappeared. Owing to this chance meeting help was immediately available. The injured man, who was reached with great difficulty, was found to be badly injured. Immediately, messengers were despatched for Dr Bakewell and Constable Johns, of Sumner. Upon their arrival he was treated for bad scalp wounds and concussion and prepared for being carried up the cliff. This proved a hazardous task to be solved only by the assistance of a willing body of sturdy assistants. After getting the injured man to the top of the cliff a further tramp over the spur was necessary before the Taylor’s Mistake Road was reached. The ambulance summoned from the city was waiting on the new road overlooking the bay.
