RIFLE SHOOTING.

Ashburton Successful in Oakes Shield. DEFEAT SYDENHAM. A match for the Canterbury Rifle Association Oakes Challenge Shield was fired at Ashburton on Saturday afternoon between the challengers, Sydenham Defence Rifle Club, and the holders, the Ashburton Defence Club. This was the second match this season, the holders being successful against the Christchurch Club two wpeks ago. Ashburton shot exceptionally well on Saturday and, exceeding their previous total by some 19 points, defeated Sydenham by 781 to 762. A fine performance was put up by C. Glassey for the winners with 102 off the rifle out of a possible 105. Scores were as follows: ASHBURTON.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. The executive of the Canterbury Rifle Association has decided that owing to the uncertainty of the ammunition that is to be on issue at the coming championship meeting to be held at Redcliffs on Boxing Day, to allow all competitors to use their own as on issue to them from the Defence Department with the exception of 1930 or later. Correspondence has been received from Major-General W. L. * H. SinclairBurgess, commanding New Zealand Military Forces, assuring the executive that the whole of the ammunition now held by the department has been reclassified with a result that it will be satisfactory to all riflemen at the forthcoming championship meeting. The meeting, which is the tenth annual one to be held by the present association, promises to be most successful.
