CYCLING DERBY.
Race Over Twenty-mile Course To-night. The New Zealand Derby road championship will be decided to-night over a twenty-miles course. The race will start at the corner of Hills and Briggs Roads, Mairehau, at 6.15. The race is being conducted by the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling and Axemen’s Union. The following handicaps have been declared:— Scratch—R. S. Wair. ljmin—E. J. Butcher, A. Mugford. 2min—l. Sutherland, R. Sutherland, L. Thomas. 4 J min—D. Aitken, G. Glubb, G. Vaughan, J. Cole. 5 min—H. Hobson, J. Steele, A. Clemence. 53min —H. Gibson, J. F. M’Grath. 75min —E. Burke, A. Pass, G. Platt. 9min—H. Milner. llmin—A. Glubb. LAYKOLD CUP. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 14. In winning the Laykold Cup, a fivejnile handicap, at Petone on Saturday, P. N. Robinson, a leading Wellington amateur, rode as fine a race as has been seen here for a long time. The field included a number of the best cyclists in Christchurch, Wellington and Masterton, but Robinson was a match for them in riding and tactics. He won by half a length from T. O’Brien (Christchurch), with F. Grose (Christchurch) third. Time, llmin £>4sec.
