But will twenty wind-blown bobs equal one streak of gold? k At St Luke’s Schoolroom on Saturda.yr the Archdeacon’s lament at the arrival of the rain for which, like all good parsons, he had possibly prayed on the previous Sunday, reminded me of lines I had not seen since I was a lad, and now quote from memory:— “Have mercy, Heaven!” the parson cries, “ And on our parched, sunburned plains Thy blessing send in genial rains.” The sermon ended and the prayers, The parson to be gone prepares, When “ Lo, it rains!” quoth Farmer Giles. “ Rains!” said the parson, “sure you joke! Rains! Heaven forbid. I’ve got no cloak! ”
