Southland v Otago

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —The letter from Go wan Farquharson was witty and bright, but otherwise worthless. To him I say that sealers arid whalers were doing a thriving . business in Southland before people knew there was such a place as Otago. The letter from “ S.D. ” rambles over four inches but says nothing and means nothing. “ Otakau ” is one who is so particular about his terminology. I wish he was. My name is spelt MacLachlan and not M’Lachlan. Would he please bear that in mind? “ Otakau ” asks why all the boost for Southland? Be reasonable, sir, sweetly reasonably. I did not boost Southland; I said “ Why not be correct?” It was useless to give me the history of the case. I know it all.—l am, etc., I. L. MacLACHLAN.
