Sumner Pride Juveniles. Brother C. Ford, C.T., presided over this week’s meeting of Sumner Pride Juvenile Good Templars. The visitors included the Grand Councillor, Brother lies, and Sister lies. Sister Mrs Cook (Dunedin), Sister Mrs Teague (Sydenham), Brother W. Teague (New Brighton) and Sister Teague (Redcliffs). Brothers Bromley and Wilson, Sister ! Mathews and Brothers J. and G. Dalziel were welcomed. Greetings were received from Dunedin, Brisbane and Sydney, and the visitors were asked to return the good wishes. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Grand Chief in the loss of his wife, Sister Dalton. An address was given by Brother lies and Sister Teague spoke on her trip to Brisbane. Concert at St Giles. A concert party arranged by Mr Buist gave an enjoyable programme at St Giles Presbyterian Schoolroom, Papanui, on Wednesday night. The Christchurch Scottish Pipe Band played several selections. Items were given as follows: Songs, Mesdames Stewart and Pearce and Messrs J. Wilson, B. Rennell, M’Culloch, North and R. Stevens; violin solo, Miss M’Glashan; Highland dances, Miss Bruce’s pupils; instrumental selections, Messrs Woodward (banjo) and Patterson (bagppies). New Papanui Tennis Club. A new tennis club was formed in Papanui on Wednesday night at a meeting held in the Waimairi School. Mr A. Haynes, chairman of the School Committee, presided. The chairman explained that the Waimairi Tennis Club, which had had the use of the courts during the last two years, had removed to new ones at Watford Street. It was felt by the School Committee that a club was an asset to the school, and to the social life of the district; also the subscriptions would help the committee. On the motion of Mr J. N. M’Leod it was decided to form a club under the following conditions: That the subscriptions be 15s for senior players and 10s for juniors up to Twenty years of age: school children to have the use of the courts from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., except on Saturdays and holidays; Sunday play not to be allowed. It was decided to call the club the Windermere Tennis Club, and the following officers were elected: President, Mr J. M’Leod; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Wilkins, F. L. Drury, A. Goode, Savage and A. E. ITaynes; secretary and treasurer, Mr M. Paulger; committee, Mesdames M’Causland, Newman, Miss N. Coull, Messrs C. Wilkins, L. Dailey, C. M’Leod and C. E. Evans. It was decided to open on October 10, and to ask Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., to perform the opening ceremony. Waimairi Tennis Club. Good progress has been made with the laying of the Waimairi Tennis Club’s new courts at Watford Street. Should a fair share of fine weather be experienced the courts will be ready for the opening. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) has been asked to perform the ceremony, and Mr R. Cartner has agreed to run a progressive doubles tournament during the afternoon. :: :: Redcliffs Ladies’ Hockey Club. A special meeting of the Redcliffs Ladies’ Hockey Club was held in the Redcliffs Library last evening, Mr H. W. Rogers presiding. Final arrangements for the visit of a club team to Hanmer on Saturday were approved. The team will leave by motor-car at 11 a.m., returning on Sunday. Following is the team selected; Misses R. Bailey, D. Pye, N. Bates, Mavis Rich, Monica Rich, J. Potts, M. Truscott, M. Hobson, D. Baunton and L. Alexander. Mr H. Rogers will accompany the team as manager. Trophies donated by Mrs W. l£ Nicholson and Miss W. Adcock, for tne most improved player iq the A and in the B teams, and for the most consistent player in the A and in the B teams, were awarded by vote to the following: A team, most improved player, Miss Mavis Rich; most consistent player, Miss N. Bates. B team: Most improved player, Miss L. Alexander; most consistent player, Miss K. Sullivan.
