HEAVY DEMAND.
Supplies Taxed at Pound Scheme Depot. GOODS FROM COUNTRY. Supplies are going out freely at the Central Pound Scheme depot, and the efforts of collectors are taxed in order to keep up with the demand for relief. Several week-end collections were received at the depot this morning, and two consignments of goods from the Rangiora and Banks Peninsula branches of the Farmers’ Union were expected for delivery-. Tea, sugar, flour and butter are still the outstanding shortages. The distribution of meat is taking place steadily from the second consignment of 500 carcases supplied by the Government. The meat is going out at the rate of 100 carcases weekly.
