Directors of Mason, Struthers and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, report for the year ended June 30 a loss of £8389 16s lid on the year’s operations. This is attributed to “ the present financial depression and the consequent reduced purchasing power of the public, resulting in considerable reduction in sales as compared with last year’s returns. As forecast last year, stocks have been reduced by nearly one-fourth with a corresponding fall in the company’s liabilities. The amount owing to depositors and sundry creditors is £27,092 4s 7d, compared with £53,523 3s 2d last year, a reduction of approximately 50 per cent. As the balance in the profit and loss account has been reduced to £2822 2s 2d. “ the directors regret that they cannot recommend a dividend this year, because with the uncertain future it appears necesjary in the shareholders’ interests to maintain their strong financial position.” Liabilities include paid-up capital £IIO.OOO, deposits £4OO, sundry creditors £26,692, reserve for taxes, bad debts and interest £4014, staff superannuation reserve £4346. reserve account £33.000, balance to profit and loss £2822. Assets include freehold and leasehold properties (less mortgages thereon) £50,379. stocks £99.235. plant and furniture £7OOI, sundry debtors £24,659.
