“TUSSLE ON THE ROAD.”
Exception Taken to Coalman’s Behaviour. When a coalman called at a house in Kilmore Street recently, a young man, William John Kendrick Harker, took exception to tke manner in which a woman was addressed. He engaged in an argument with the coalman, Thomas Bell, and the incident ended in a tussle. Harker was this morning convicted in the Magistrate’s Court of offensive behaviour and ordered to pay witnesses’ ’ expenses 10s. He was represented by ■ Mr Amodeo. Senior-Sergeant Fox said that when Bell called at the house he shouted “ Coal! ” A woman took exception to his shouting, and he thereupon asked “ what the hell he was to do ”. Harker heard the exchange of words, and went out from the house. Bell went out to his delivery car and cranked the engine. Harker immediately switched off the engine. This occurred five or six times. It ended in the pair having a tussle on the road, in which Bell’s thumb was injured. Bell had to some extent been at fault over the matter.
