The Noble Grand reminded the lodge that next lodge night a “ sing, say or pay ” evening would be held. Russian Competition. Mr Douglas White-Parsons, who is at Home studying civil engineering, in a letter to his father, Mr Arthur WhiteParsons, of Lyttelton, states, inter alia: —“ There seems to be a stronger tone on the Stock Exchange here, and prices are all showing a tendency to rise. The general opinion here is that Australian politics have taken a change for the better, and, indeed, they will have to get their house in order very soon if they expect to compete with Russia, which, I - think, is going to come through with flying colours. ,
There will be some great competition from that quarter. News is drifting through now that seems to disprove much of what we had heard.”
