NEARLY 8200 HELPED.

Pound Scheme Relief Depots do Good Work. During the past week the depots working under the Pound Scheme have helped nearlv 1800 families in distress, or approximately 8200 persons. This is in addition to the help given by the Hospital Board, the Returned Soldiers’ Association and church charitable societies. The detailed list of the number of persons helped at each depot is as follows:—Salvation Army, 393; St Peter’s, Ferry Road, 268; Mrs Fraer’s, 210; St Saviour’s, Sydenham, 201; St Martin’s House of Help. 199; Add'ngton. 143; S'vdenham Methodist. 135; Richmond. 73. The Sumner-Redcliffs and New Brighton depot figures arc not available for publication. The collections last week shewed a slight falling off, due to a variety of causes, but gifts in districts previously untouched made up the total to nearlv the average. However, the depots suffered a shortage at the end of the week, and require good collections this week-end to make up their supplies for next week. The central depot has an offer of several acres of potatoes to be had for the digging, and can supply the labour and the cartage. There is, though, a shortage of sacks, in which to earn* and store them, Mr A. H. Shanks stated this morning that the)' would welcome help in this direction. , ' x/ ORK FOR TEACHERS.
