“HOLD UP” CASES.

Police Charge Three Men in Wellington. LODGINGS SEARCHED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 14. In the course of investigations in connection with the reported hold-ups which occurred in the suburbs of Wellington during the past week Detective M’Lennan and Constable Scarry arrested two men at Petone at 10 o’clock last night on a charge of attempted breaking and entering. Detective M’Lennln communicated with the detective office, Wellington, and as a result of certain information which he supplied detectives went to Abel Smith Street, where they arrested, at 3 a.m., a third man on a charge of tweaking, entering and theft. When the man’s lodgings were searched subsequently the detectives found a mask, an av corn a tic pistol, ammunition and two bludgeons. Leslie Gordon Clarke, 22, and Svdnev John Hodge, 35, were charged in the Police Court, Petone, with attempted breaking and entering, on July 31, of the Self-Help Co-operative Store, Jackson Street, with intent to commit theft. They were remanded to appear at Wellington on August 22. William Edward Brown. cabinet maker, 27. appeared before Mr E. Page. S.M., at the Magistrate's Court and was remanded until August 27, on a charge of breaking and entering the warehouse of the Saracen Shoe Company and stealing goods valued at £6.
