THE WINTER SHOW.
Visited by Children from Orphanages. Over 500 children from the Christchurch orphanages spent a happy time at the Winter Show this morning. Every effort was made to give the children a real treat, and, judging by the smiling faces .they appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The organiser (Mr E. H. Marriner) said that he wished to thank the following for donations to the children:— Aulsebrooks and Co., Ltd. (sweets), Stacey and Hawker and Mrs Gibson (buns), Park Davis and Co. and Macfarlane and Co., Ltd. (apples), and also the proprietor of the merry-go-round and the rabbit breeders. An attractive programme had been arranged for to-day, and th'ere should be a record attendance. The first batch of country school children will visit the show on Monday. On Tuesday and Thursday train loads of children will come from the West Coast. The Wool Fairies’ entertainment ends tonight. All next week films will be screened instead. Admirable amusements and entertainments are provided by the sideshows and programmes at the exhibition. It is not anticipated that the children will display quite so much interest in the trade exhibits as in the entertainments, but parents who have the future in mind will know the great value of directing the young mind to the necessity of seeing for themselves the numerous working demonstrations showing the processes in the manufacture of New Zealand-made goods and understanding somewhat of the wisdom of preferring to purchase them for the true economy they represent. Nor will parents overlook the excellent 44 Story of Wool ” that is told in song, dance and film in the N.C.O. Club room, and the exhibit of beautiful Angora tilitv rabbits and all the handsome apparel made from their wool and pelts which can be seen in the shed section adjoining the main xnxild-
