The Harrier Clubs.
To the Editor. Dear Sir.—As one who has taken some little interest in sport for a number of years, including the harrier game, I have often wondered why, in this department of athletics, Canterbury seems to lag so far behind both Wellington and Dunedin. The notes appearing in your last evening’s edition help to solve the mystery. To sort out one particular club for commendation and classify the other local clubs simply as “ mediocre,” must be discouraging for the other competitions. So long as the authorities individualise in this manner, the sport will continue to occupy its present low status. If my memory serves me aright, the Cricket Association recently did a little readjustment of the cricket teams in order to promote healhv competition, and the sooner the harrier authorities drop the individualistic attitude and concentrate on promoting a healthy rivalry between the different teams, the sooner will the standard of the sport improve.—l am, etc., ON THE BANK.
