THE WINTER SHOW.

School Children Enjoy a Happy Time.

One of the busiest men at the Winter Show is Air J. Voss, the children's marshaL Every day Mr Voss has to look after a horde of children w 7 ho come Xrom the Christchurch schools to view the exhibits and have an entertaining time generally. This morning was no exception to the rule, the following schools sending contingents: Shirley 350, Lyttelton West 50, North Lin wood 250, West Spreydon 100 and Methven 100. This afternoon children are expected from Hare wood (70), Phillipstown (180), Redcliffs (40), Mount Pleasant (30), Christchurch East (150), Burwood (75), Addington Convent (130), Villa Maria (50) and St Michael’s (100). So far the visits of the school children have been wonderfully free from mishaps. One boy led another to the organiser’s room yesterday and announced, not without pride, that this was a “ wounded soldier.” Air E. H. Marriner seriously inspected a small cut in the youngster’s hand and, entering into the spirit of the thing, took him to the ambulance room, where he was solemnly attended to. Several of the young folk have lost purses and handkerchiefs, and even front door keys, and have tearfully announced their mishaps, but in many cases the missing articles have been found and peace restored again. New Features. A new feature of the show is a fine model of the proposed Canterbury Hal), which may house future Winter Shows. A city firm has opened a new stall, at which deer skins and boots and shoes made from deer skin are shown. Further, a clock has been placed in a prominent position for the convenience of visitors and, for the children’s benefit, the Punch and Judy Show has been fitted with an amplifier, so that all may hear. To-morrow will be the big day of the show, and special arrangements are being made to cope with and entertain the expected crowds. Special displays have been arranged for both afternoon and evening. During the day over 400 orphanage children are expected and they will be entertained to free displays and refreshments.
