WOMAN ADMITS THEFT.
Probation Given in Case I at Ashburton. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, August 14. A domestic employed in a boarding house appeared before Mr C. R. OrrWalker in court this morning on five charges of theft of money from the pockets of boarders. She pleaded guilty. Accused, whose name was suppressed, was admitted to probation for one year. On charges of failure to give way to traffic on the right, Frederick Hood, of Lowcliffe, was fined £2 and costs 12s. For a similar offence, George Marsden, was fined £1 and costs 10s. William Crawford Lunan, of Mayfield, appeared on two charges of defaulting in payment of the unemployment levy. On the first charge he was fined £1 and costs 10s, and on the second was ordered to pay 10s costs. Albert Joseph Bell, who appeared on remand, was fined £l, in default' three days’ imprisonment, for drunkenness iri a railway carriage. On a charge of travelling without having paid the fare he was convicted and discharged.
