THE MILFORD RESORT.
Statement of Finances Wanted in Invercargill. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, August 13. The council of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce to-day passed a resolution that the Minister in Charge of Tourist and Health Resorts be requested to furnish a statement of revenue and expenditure connected with the Milford resort, with a view to the chamber submitting suggestions for minimising loss. In introducing the subject Mr John Gilkison said the costs of government and Government expenditure in all direQtions needed to be curtailed drastically. He moved, “That the Minister be asked to furnish a statement of capital outlay on the track and hostels and all branches of the service, including gross takings and expenditure, and that the Minister be informed that if the return were supplied the chamber might be able to offer suggestions for reducing the heavy loss.” Mr L. S. Spencer said the expenditure on the hostel buildings had been far too lavish. The Milford Hostel was much too elaborate and was ahead of its time.
