AIRMAN OVERDUE.
Metal Cylinder Found on Jutland Coast. HOPE NOW ABANDONED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right. (Received August 13, noon.) COPENHAGEN. August 12. A metal cylinder has been found on the JutlcAid coast. It presumably belongs to Mr Parker Cramer’s machine and hope has now been abandoned. Nevertheless the Trans-American Line is continuing preparations for further surveys. A message received on August 10 stated that mysterious wireless calls, in which the words, "Hullo, Norway!” in an American accent, could be distinguished, had caused fears for the safety of Mr Cramer, who was surveying a possible commercial air route from America via Greenland. He left Shetland Islands for Copenhagen on Sunday and was long overdue. Three Norwegian seaplanes had been despatched to search for him. Mr Cramer had been in difficulties since Friday. After leaving the American continent he flew as far as Iceland in safety, but on his next stage, to the Faroe Islands, he was forced down at sea. Ilis trouble then was not serious, as a later message, received on Sunday, said that he reached the Faroe Islands. In 1928. accompanied by Hassell, Mr Cramer attempted to fly from America to Sweden. The first stage to Cochrane. Ontario, was successfully covered, but the second stage of 1600 miles to Mount Evans, Greenland, was not achieved. They were blown off their course and landed in the interior of Greenland when their fuel was exhausted. After a fortnight of wandering in the ice wilderness they were rescued by Esquimaux on September 2 and taken to their base at Mount Evans.
