ANOTHER DEATH.

Race Week Toll Further Extended. PUBLIC WORKS OVERSEER. Another death of a race visitor is reported, making four this week. Alexander M. Lyon, a public works overseer, of Woodville, Wairarapa, died in Lewisham Hospital yesterday following a heart seizure on Grand National Day. Mr Lyon came to the city from the North Island for National Week and was staying at Tattersall’s Hotel. He went to the races on Tuesday and returned to the hotel late in the afternoon. He had been in only a short time when he had a seizure of the heart and collapsed. lie was taken to Lewisham Private Hospital, but died the following morning. No inquest will be necessary. The late Mr Lyon was well .known in Canterbury as an officer of the Public Works Department. lie was overseer at the erection of the Hurunui and Selwyn bridges and had only lately gone to Woodville to take charge of the erection of a bridge there. The cause of the numerous deaths from heart failure after National Day is inexplicable. It is considered likely, however, that the heat of the day combined with excitement may have had considerable effect on people suffering from cardiac trouble.
