GOOD LOOKS,

Don’t Let Winter Beat You. SIMPLE REMEDIES. Don’t let wintry weather give you a bleak, pinched look. Your skin needs special lubrication and protection at this time of year. If you use soap and water, pat a little nourishing cream into your face afterwards.. If you cleanse with cream alone, wipe off all the cream and dirt together and use a second application. The thin film of cream that clings to the skin, after you have wiped off the surplus with rose water and cotton wool, is a wonderful protection under powder. The Beauty of White Hair. Well-kept white hair is a beauty of which any woman can be proud. If you are a housewife, wear a becoming shingle cap of some material thick enough to protect your hair whenever you are cooking or performing any task that brings you in contact with steam or the fumes of gas or coal stoves, otherwise that fascinating whiteness will speedily be replaced by a dingy yellow tint. Shampoo your hair once a week, using a solution of olive oil, soap and hot water, and rinse it in water in which an ordinary blue bag has been dipped. When having it waved, see that the tongs are only warm, instead of hot. You will'find that your locks retain their whiteness and always remain in perfect condition. A Clean Skin.

One famous American doctor is loud in his praise of water for keeping the skin clean. Use warm water first to open the pores, Hhen splash cold all over the face to close them. Cold water may be regarded as a skin tonic—first it causes a contraction of the skin, then reaction sets in and the skin returns to its normal colour. In this way water is a splendid stimulator of the skin cells and makes them function properly. Soft Water. Except in a very few cases water is suitable for every skin. Always use soft water for your face and neck. Clear rain water is ideal, but when it is not obtainable a little borax (one teaspoonful in a hand basin),, will soften hard water. It acts as a mild antiseptic in the water and has a soothing effect on an irritable skin. Soda must never be used to soften water used on the face and neck. Open Pores. * Greasy and relaxed skins are benefited by adding tw’o teaspoonfuls of a mixture of simple tincture of benzoin and glycerine to the usual washhand basin of water. The glycerine enables the resinous tincture to mix well with the water. For excessive redness of face, where the blood vessels appear prominent, a few drops of spirits of camphor added to a handbasin of water will be found useful. Home Massage. Every time you laugh or frow T n you help to make a wrinkle! Massage—and a sensible diet—are the best things to help you to avoid sagging muscles and to keep your skin in good condition generally.
