GRAND MAORI HUI.

Carnival Commences at Caledonian Hall.

The Maori hui and greencourts carnival will be held in the Caledonian Hall to-day, to-morrow and Saturday. The carnival commenced this afternoon, and Mr TI Holland, M.P., will declare the fair open at 7.30 p.m. The opening ceremony will be followed by a powhiri, or ancient form of Maori welcome, m which thirty specially trained Maoris will take part. Popular numbers will also be given, including old Maori folk and action songs, football choruses and poi dances. Numerous games and sideshows will also form an attraction, and many finely decorated stalls will display, for sale, home-made cakes, sweets, produce, plants, ice-creams and soft dririks. The Maori party arrived from Temuka this morning, and the City Council has granted permission for the party to parade the streets on each morning of the carnival.
