West Australia Desirous of a Referendum. ASSEMBLY’S DECISION. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 13, 9 a.m.) PERTH, August 13. A motion requesting the Government to take a referendum on the question of the secession of the State from the Federation was passed in the Legislative Assembly by 21 to 14 votes. For many the question of secession from the Commonwealth has been discussed in Western Australia and Tasmania. Both of these States have been in financial difficulties for a period of years and it has been urged that were they to control their own affairs," they would be better off.
