SCHOOL WIN AGAIN

Fast Display in Return College Match.

In a bright, open and fast display, Boys’ High School defeated Christ’s College in a return match played at the High School grounds yesterday afternoon. The school fifteen, although playing without five of its leading members, was able to hold the upper hand and the final whistle found the score 11-3 in its favour. The teams were:— High . School—D. Cobden. J. Carmichael, R. S. Cook, C. A. Tweedie. W. O. Gill, A. P. Cobden. W. Clark. H. F. W. Bruorton, J. Stewart. W. Toy, J. Rankin, J. Morrison, N. L. Schluter. I. M’Neill and N. Bruce. Christ’s College—A. P. J. Monteath, T. A. Gresson, B. L. Spence, H. G. Sedgley, H. F. Flow'er, C. N. M’Kenzie, T. B. Morten, G. C. Webb, R. O. Kimberley. A. R. Ormorid, J. H. Holderness. B. P. Smith, G. P. Roberts, A. H. Harding and, D. H. Arthur. College opened the scoring. Arthur kicking a beautiful penalty goal from the side-line five minutes after the start of play. A fine run by Cook let Carmicliael in near corner, for a try. D. Cobden’s kick was wide. College 3, High School 3. Good work by the College forwards carried play close to the School line, but forward play spoiled a chance of scoring. Poor handling robbed College of another chance of scoring, when the backs were sent away from a scruni in front of the goal. A loose rush by the School forwards transferred play to College territory. After some scrambling play, the College backs staged a swift rush into the School twentyfive and until the end of the spell the School defence was given a thorough testing. At half-time the score was: Christ’s College 3, High School 3. The second spell opened with a lively attack by the School backs. College were hard pressed, but rallied and cleared to half-way. Under pressure by the School forwards the College defence was badly shaken but remained intact. Schluter led the School van in a swift invasion of the College twenty-five, but Monteath saved with a well-placed kick. Open play followed. Tweedie made a bold dash away from a ruck but after running half the length of the field was well grassed by Monteath. A. Cobden next broke-away but was brought down in possession and College cleared. Good work by the College forwards put School on the defensive for a brief period, but a penalty gave School a chance to clear. Keeping up a hammering attack, the School backs were calling the tune. A. Cobden made a fine run from the twenty-five to score near the posts. D. Cobden converted. High School 8, Christ’s College 3. A good run by Tweedie and Cook placed School again in a scoring position, but the College forwards, led by Arthur, stubbornly resisted further attacks and finally' cleared their line. Sedgemere gained ground for College in a solo dribbling effort, and from a line-out the .College backs got away, invading the School territory for the first time during the thirty minutes of play. Rankin beat Ormond to the touch-down in the nick of time. Whipping round a scrum near half-way, the "School half. Clark, dodged through a ruck and found the line well down in College territory. It was smart work, and School had another chance of scoring. The chance was not missed. Rankin breaking through to score right on time. The kick missed.
