SYDENHAM W.C.T.U.
The Sydenham branch of the W.C.T.U. held its monthly meeting in the schoolroom of the Colombo Street Baptist Church. There was a good attendance. Mrs Anderson conducted the devotional exercises. Mrs Gilmour, president, occupied the chair. A temperance fact was given by Mrs Haines, who was welcomed back after her recent illness. Arrangements were discussed for the stand at the Winter Show, and the sum of £2 2s was voted from the fund to the upkeep of cupboards. Mrs Woodward sang a solo, and a duet was given by Mesdames Filer and Weatherhead. Mrs Gilmour then introduced the speaker, the Rev D. Gardner Miller, who gave an address on the “Ideal City.” Mrs J. K. Archer (vice-president) referred to the departure of their president, Mrs Gilmour, for Invercargill, and spoke of the growth of the branch during her period of office. On behalf of the members, Mrs Archer asked Mrs Gilmour to accept a rug and an autograph album. An elocutionary item was given by Mrs Beryl Windsor. One new member was initiated.
