Wellington City By-law Attacked. MUSICAL 'TRADE’S PROTEST. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 12. The musical instrument trade in Wellington is protesting against the proposed new city by-law prohibiting the playing of musical instruments and radio gramophones in business places. A meeting of the Advisory Committee of the New Zealand Musical Trades Association expressed the view that the proposed bv-law was not only an interference with legitimate business and in restraint of trade, but quite unreasonable, in that it was a by-law against noise, yet only attacked musical instruments, played either privately or publicly, and made no provision for a permit, or license, which if granted to one must be granted to all. A deputation will interview the City Council.
