“ECONOMIC WARRIORS.”
Russian Workers Given De Luxe Tour. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 11. Selected from Russia for conspicuous service on behalf of the Five-Year Plan, more than 350 Soviet workers reached London in pouring rain, yesterday, on board the Russian steamer Ukraine. Pretty girls, strong-shouldered, with tanned complexions and wearing overalls and berets, mixed with bearded men, fresh faced youths, stout elderly ladies and plain young women in homespun and Russian boots. All shared two qualifications; None have been outside Russia previously, and all represented the cream of Russia’s “economic warriors.” They are making a month’s tour as a reward for service. In addition to London they will visit Genoa and Constantinople. They will not visit hotels, but are living on board the steamer during the whole voyage, in accommodation rivalling that of crack Atlantic liners.
