A Philosopher's View.

To tfta Editor. • Dear Sir, —Owing to the Governments of New Zealand and Russia not being on speaking terms, through some disagreement over butter-boxes or razor-blades, it has apparently become necessary for the Soviet Government to appoint properly equipped, intelligent and cultured persons to report to them on the doings and otherwise of the various institutions established in New Zealand for the furtherance of good government, which we, as New Zealanders, know have been proclaimed throughout the world as the latest production of human intelligence, more particularly in the manner in which they are conducted. Unfortunately, a few of the appointed plenipotentiaries, through going the wrong way about their work, are now observing the workings of the inner circle of one of our noblest establishments, really as political prisoners. The Government of Russia, when it settles down quietly in a month or so, will want to establish some form of amusement for its people and may create a chamber of commerce, a burgesses’ association, a welfare league and a few conservancy boards, and a report from its ambassadors in New Zealand will be anxiously awaited, particularly as the U.S.S.R. Government have nothing of any great importance on hand to attend to at the present time. In conclusion, sir, can I state that I have given keen attention to the trend of the world's latter-day problems, and although I don’t donate a large amount to the pound scheme, I have always contributed a vast fund of wisdom towards the enlightenment of humanity on abstruse questions.—l am etc, ‘ PAKURA.
