Defence Pension Cut.
To the £6ltor. Dear Sir,—ln reply to “Economy”: I was retired last December from the Defence Department under the latest amendment to the Act, my last engagement, for which I am entitled to pension being only 6£ years. Six and a half sixtieths of my salary during the last three years should give me £35 per annum, but because I am three years short of the age (sixty) for retirement, the Government Actuary cuts my pension to £25 per annum. Every member of the Defence Department retired under this clause has been subject to this cut, and in some cases the deduction is as much as £IOO per annum. If *’ Economy ” does not call this a cut (in addition to losing our jobs), I don't know the meaning of the word.—l am etc., PENSIONER.
