KEEN COMPETITION BETWEEN DISTRICTS.

NORTH CANTERBURY SETS VERY HIGH STANDARD.

Though there were only two entrants in the district bays competition. North Canterbury and Banks PeninsulaEllesinere', the exhibits were of a standard that made the contest a notable one. It is always the leading feature of the show as far as country visitors are concerned and, from the comment of spectators, the bays of this year were successful in passing whatever critical test the men from the country apply. The winning exhibition was that of North Canterbury, which scored 50Hpoints out of a possible 560, as against 126 hby Peninsula-Ellesmere. The detailed markings were:—

Looking at the display, one wonders how so many articles of produce could come from one district. The visitor sees practically everything from hides, wood and wool to jams and confectionery. It is an extremely well-arranged exhibit, and in the opinion of Mr H. L. Darton, the judge of the produce and seed sections in these bays, the display was ideally set up and the quality was up to Home standard. Comprehensive Display. Produce of similar excellence is shown on the Banks Peninsula-Elles-raere bay. These two bays are the largest, both in regard to size and the quantity of their exhibits. Smaller, but none the less interesting, are bays dealing with special subjects. There are two examples of these which show what can be done by a small body of workers. These are bays showing produce from the Rangiora High School and St. Bede’s College, Christchurch.
