NEW SURVEY BLOCKS PLACED IN THE STREETS.

During the past few weeks a number of new standard survey blocks have been placed jn the streets of St Albans. These stones are a great improvement on the old stones that were placed in position when the streets were formed. They are used as a base for surveys. With the old stones it has been necessary when surveys were being carried out to open up the roads to a depth of four or five inchafc, but the new blocks, some of which are two feet in length, are fitted with iron caps that are level with the surface of the road The work is being carried out by the Lands and Survey Department, but the City Council is bearing two-fifths of the cost.
