Dogs and Music.

To the Editor. Dear Sir,—Can any of your readers tell me just why dogs whine when they hear music? I had always been under the impression that it was because tl.cy enjoyed the music, for I noticed that a house dog of a friend of mine would come into the room and sit near the piano, making curious noises in its throat when certain pieces were played. But now another friend tells me that the fine vibrations set up by the music hurt the dog’s sensitive eardrums, and that his whineg and restlessness are really due to distress. Which of us is right?—l am, etc., DOG LOVER.
