MOTOR UNION OPPOSES ROADSIDE HOARDINGS.

Per Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, August 5. A meeting of the executive of the North Island Motor Union discussed in committee the question of main highways finance. A letter was received from the Prime Minister stating that an opportunity would be given to the motor unions to to submit evidence before a select committee of the House. It was reported that the union had objected to the proposals of the railwaydepartment to increase the charges for using railway road bridges of which there were 23 in the Dominion from £2662 to £IB,OOO. The secretary explained that an agreement had been reached between the Counties Association and the union as to a reasonable charge. It was decided that oil companies should be requested to discontinue roadside advertising and also to urge that petrol prices should be reduced to a figure more in parity with the prices obtainable abroad.
