VICTORIAN AMATEUR GOLFERS HAVE TOURNEY

United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, August 5. The first round of matches of the Victorian amateur golf championship were remarkable for the defeat of the veteran, A. Jackson, by a sixteen-year-old golfer, H. L. Williams, who gave a first-class exhibition. He outdrove his opponent off practically every tee and played his irons with mechanical accuracy. He won four up and three. After a great struggle at the thirtyseventh hole F. Bulte eliminated the former open champion, Ivo Whitton. At the final hole, Sloan Morpeth (N.Z.) defeated L. M’Pherson, five up and three.
