MATTERS DEALT WITH BY EDUCATION BOARD.
The Canterbury Education Board met to-day. There were proseitt:—Messrs R. Wild (chairman), J. AV. Preen. G. W. Armitage, J. J. Hurley, W. P. Spencer. J. G. Gow, Stanley Smith and W. Johnson. It was resolved to recommend to the Department the establishment of a household school in the Karangarua district. In reply tp letters urging increased stalling at the Greymouth. Itunanga and Timaru South Schools, it waa decided to express regret that the brtavd was unable to accede to the requests. It was agreed to proceed with the erection of a school at Craigmore. an extra acre of ground to be secured. In order to accommodate the surplur pupils at the Timaru West School, it \va? decided to apply for a grant of approximately £165 for (a) shifting of portable classroom nearer the main school and (b) providing a temporary classroom between the portable building and the school boundary. Fresh representations were made by the Timaru West School Committee respecting the purchase of additional land comprising three roods and containing two houses, the selling price being £2450 in the aggregate. It was decided to reply that, owing to the financial condition of the country, the board was not prepared to recommend the proposal to the Department. Appointments and Resignations. It was resolved to send letters of appreciation to Miss Osborn (Normal) and Mr Allen (Sumner), who are retiring after long service.
