“Jf we could only get protection for Empire produce in England many qf our difficulties would be solved,” said Mr Norton Francis in answering a question' put to him at a meeting of the Junior Reform League last evening. ‘‘The Conservative Party in the Mother Country seem to be realising that the prosperity of England and the Empire depends upon closer trade with the dominions. The question of trade protection, however, wcrald probably raise a strong protest from the Argentine, which, although it .is a foreign country, has been largely developed by British capital, and if it came to a question of trade within the Empire, 1 fear that the issue would depend upon how much pressure we could stand from British financial interests in the Argentine.”
