CANAL RESERVE IS TO BE TAR-SEALED.
COUNTY COUNCIL NOW PUTTING ROAD IN ORDER. Preparations for the tar-sealing of the section of Canal Reserve, between Hargood Street and Dyer Street, are now being made by • the Heathcote County Council. Councillor J. W. Beanland, chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council, said this morning that he had been advised that the Coqnty Council now had its road roller working on the road, and by the time a start was made with the reconstruction of Ferry Road, between. Hargood Street and Dyer Street, it would be in very fair condition. The tar-sealing had not actually been decided upon by the council but he had been informed by one of the members that it was intended to put it in the same condition as the section under the control of the city. It was an alternative route between the city and Sumner that ha wished to see used to a much greater extent in order to reduce the volume of traffic on Ferry Road. The distance bv the two routes was practically the same, and it was possible to travel at a greater speed by using the Canal Reserve route.
